Loving Seniors Re-Do Their I Do’s At The Roosevelt At Salt Creek

This past Valentine’s Day, The Roosevelt at Salt Creek Senior Living Community was lovingly adorned with stringed lights and heart-shaped balloons as 12 resident couples once again walked down the aisle to renew their wedding vows.

The couples aged 80 to 90 sat at the front of the room as Elmhurst Mayor Scott Levin presided over the ceremony. “When I look at the likes of the marriages that we’re celebrating today, they’re truly remarkable by any standard,” said Mayor Levin, “so I congratulate all of you for that.”

When asked about the secret to a long-lasting marriage, Roosevelt resident Larry Wing, 84, said, “Yes dear, yes dear, yes dear,” as his wife Ellen, 81, sat laughing beside him.

“When you work with our residents and hear their stories, it’s endearing to see how close they are,” said Peter Crane, The Roosevelt community’s Executive Director.

And even after 60 years, Larry and Ellen Wing’s love continues to grow. “I still feel the way I did when we first got married.”
